Lucidity Joe Woodard
Lucidity, I’ve got you by the throat of your idea
I see how people act with you inside their veins, inside their brains
I’m in a daze, A pleasant feeling, still I gaze in wonderment
A beautiful machinery, humanity, such clarity
I could never peer into the future tenses, let alone the past, let’s let alone the past
Am I in love, Or is it just a case of faulty wiring?
I see a friendly ghostly picture of her face, most every place, oblivious
She doesn’t seem to notice how I long for her
I looked into those glassy eyes in front of me,
The windows on a soul not quite assembled yet
My sad and lovely pet

3/4: The Road Joe Woodard
Three for the road of wayward souls
We're fixing holes along the way
Three makes a lonesome picture whole
The rooms are full of silent blood
In a home, there are four walls
And the people form a shape
Triangular forms that move through space
Humble homes, geometry, and grace
3/4: the road is lined with wine
And wilted roses, the scent of time
Free form romance, the truest kind
Might find its way into you mind
If there is a God above
He is finding new rhymes for love
He is taking his time, and ours as well
Just waltzing along like a fool in love in threes
Bridge:
3/4: the road of endless tears
Of joy and pain, one in the same

In Wait Joe Woodard
Sleepers awake
Never having dreamed that they recall
Until the daylight begins to fall
Lying in wait
Suspended in some animated state
Of true blue union, love, not fade away
Falling into love is a dangerous game
We shudder when stars start to align
Could this be the one, ripe with love to be made
Or a magnet undoing God's design?
We anticipate
A happy destiny all lined with kisses
And best wishes 'till the end of time

Serbian Ladybug

Serbian Ladybug (Joe Woodard)
Serbian ladybug, flitting leaf to stone
Flighty to the core
Darkish though the places be, she's free
Sturdy and steady bug, but delicate and fair
Floating through the air
Doesn't seem to have a scheme, she dreams
Rivers cross, eastly west
Bitter skies pass in time
Roads to peace are lined with vines
Tangled, twisted, spineless spines
War is now in the past, or at least for now
Celebrate the now, these
Circles spin until the end of days
Serbian ladybug, your color mocks the grey, your
Dance gets in the way of
All the nasty games that people play
Serbian ladybug, flitting leaf to stone
Flighty to the core
Darkish though the places be, she's free

I Love You, Too
07:15
|

I Love You, Too Joe Woodard
I love you in a beautiful and desperate way
I can be found on the premises
By the heart-shaped pool
I had memorized your numbers, like a mental tattoo
I’d call you up, my imaginary
Sonnets of woo
chorus:
Inventing reasons to stay
Incentives won’t go away
Who’ll be the first one to say it
“I love you, too...”
“I love you, too...”
You can undermine the underdogged, ask ‘em to dance
No valentines for the weak at heart
For the peace of mind
We could minimize the space between us, that’s how it works
You say “be mine, be the only one
To give me the time of day”
Inventing reasons to stay
Incentives won’t go away
Who’ll be the first one to say it
“I love you, too...”
“I love you, too...”
Coda:
These old cliches penetrate the heart
They won’t go away, they stay
On a Moebius strip trip, day upon day...
cliches penetrate the heart
They won’t go away, they stay
On a Moebius strip trip, day upon day...

Searching

Searching Joe Woodard
We spend our whole life searching
For that beautiful tune
For those magical moments that sleep until noon
You can cling to a memory and grin that grin
Still you're seeking out and looking into
The heart of heartness
Could it be more vague?
Could it be more than just a turning of pages
On a lookout for hope, starting when we were born
We long for that beauty from which we were torn
There's a road and they call it
The path of no return
We've been spurned by the promise
That all is well that ends well
It's a search to the finish
For that beautiful sense
That the beautiful get just what they deserve
If there's justice in poetry, we'll be ok
We'll rest in the midst of the search
